Laser Acne Treatment
The development of laser surgery has been a revolution to medicine in just about every area imaginable. So it makes sense that when it comes to the treatment of severe acne or as a method to eliminate acne scars, laser surgery would be a viable way to go. Before modern techniques became available, acne treatment was limited to home remedies and antibiotics primarily. And treatments for acne scars relied on medicines that sometimes had undesirable if not dangerous side effects or surgery that was painful and expensive.
Laser surgery is far less dangerous or painful than other invasive measures. This doesn’t mean that it is the option of first choice if you have a problem with acne related scarring. For one thing, many times less drastic methods can be very effective at reducing the impact of acne on the long term look and health of the skin. Skin has a natural recuperative quality to it and many times by giving it some time and keeping the affected area clean and controlling diet and other health related lifestyle issues like rest and stress, the skin will recover on its own.
There are a variety of surgical methods that can be used to repair acne scarring including plastic surgery. But laser treatment of acne problems has become such an attractive option that it has become the option of choice in many cases. The method that has generated the most excitement is called laser resurfacing. The dermatologist who is administering this treatment does not use the laser directly on the skin itself. Instead, the idea behind laser resurfacing is that the laser device is brought close to the acne affected area but it never actually contacts it. The result is that the unhealthy tissue is melted which then allows the skin to generate good skin tissue to replace it.
Even though the process sounds drastic and painful, it actually is not and it has proven tremendously effective in fighting the long term effects of acne on the skin. Now, it is not uncommon to see the area where the surgery was done to bruise a little and even swell so some accommodation should be made for that. In most cases those side effects are gone within a week so if you want to take some time off from work or school to allow the process to take its course, that makes sense. Also, girls should avoid using cosmetics at all while the healing process takes place as the skin needs to stay absolutely clean and have plenty of air to encourage the growth of the new tissue.
Laser resurfacing is becoming one of the most popular methods for repairing damaged skin after acne and eliminating the scars. It is a little expensive so that could be a hold up for some people. But if it is a route that your dermatologist recommends, it could restore that natural smooth skin that the acne sufferer so longs for after a long and hard battle with acne.
