Treating Acne Scarring
Acne is one of the biggest struggles a young person will face. It is heartbreaking to see the otherwise sweet and cute face of a teenager marred by acne. And as hard as that is to see for a parent, to the youth for whom social acceptance and being attractive to others is a top priority, a serious case of acne is nothing more than and full blown crisis. So anything you can do to reduce the impact of acne on the skin both as the disease is active and to reduce the scaring as well is important.
It isn’t hard to find example of acne scars in society. If your teen is in the middle of his or her battle with acne and sees an adult who is living with such scars, it can be pretty terrifying. That sense of doom can become a full depression when it seems like acne is so persistent and unwilling to be beaten that the teen starts to feel like it is inevitable that he or she will never be free of it. Of course as an adult, you know that acne and the scarring can be beaten. Rather than just use assurances to buck up your teen, action that actually make changes for the better are much more encouraging to a young person who feels like he or she has leprosy rather than a normal teenager version of acne.
That fear of the horrors of acne scars can actually be used in your favor if you want to inspire your youth to do the right things to reduce the impact of acne while it is active and to prevent acne through good personal habits and diet between outbreaks. The panic at seeing just one pimple can be lessoned with the assurance that it is almost impossible to get through puberty without some acne flare ups and that will good care and future prevention, there is no reason to believe that the young person will have to deal with acne scars at all.
But once the acne is fully developed on the face of the teenager, how he or she manages the disease will make a big difference in how much scarring will be a problem. The patient will naturally be inclined to try to pop the blemishes and release the pressure of the acne. This is the worst thing he or she can do if scarring is a worry. So if the youth can be convinced to handle active acne through the application of peels or mudpacks and gentle washing instead of trying to damage the pimples directly, he will be way ahead in the battle against scars.
But even if some scarring does occur, there is a lot that can be done to eliminate them. A visit to the dermatologist or just some skilled research and reading about how to handle the problem will help. Between vitamin treatments, acne scar salves and ointments and measures the dermatologist can suggest or prescribe, the scarring can be reduced or eliminated entirely. It is a matter of taking action promptly and being persistent in treatments. But if you and your teenager team up to beat the monster of acne scarring, it can be beat and your child can once again that have attractive look she wants.
